Dutch eye surgeons have a waiting list of patients who want the latest rave
of cosmetic surgery: "JewelEye" eye ball tattoos. The surgeons implanted tiny
pieces (0.13") of jewelry in the mucous membrane of the eyes of six women and
one man to date. The procedure takes 15 minutes. No one has complained yet. They
put in sparkling hearts, stars etc. Kind of gives new meaning to the phrase
"starry eyed." So what happens next? You wake up; who turned the lights off?
Amsterdam
International Fashion Week (AFIW) : AIFW is steadily establishing itself as
a young and directional alternative to the world’s more traditional fashion
weeks. Focusing on Amsterdam’s reputation as an inspiring city, the AIFW program
combines commerce with creativity. Alongside their catwalk show schedule their
program includes fashion events, lectures, exhibitions, retail initiatives and
parties. As well as a showcase for Dutch fashion, AIFW provides a stage for the
growing New Luxury segment, that so far was stuck between existing mainstream
trade events and traditional couture weeks. |

Wal-Mart vs California
Inglewood, California is not going to take it any more. Sixty percent of the
city voted to deny Wal-Mart a zoning variance to build a Supercenter shopping
center in their city, saying that they want to hold the corporate giant
responsible. Most of the residents think that the behemoth would be a good thing
for the town in the beginning but would ultimately drive out the smaller
businesses that make up the culture of the community. The company succeeded in
lobbying for a similar store in Contra Costa County but lost out on an effort in
San Diego. Wal-Mart spent over $1 million on the Inglewood campaign and is the
first chain to test the RFID tags that can track a customer after they left the
store. |
